News of the SGI-USA Town Hall Concert, October 21, 2007 Voice and Piano Recital of Students of Brenda Kay Miller, Dillon's Cabaret Performance, Big The Musical and lesson pricing are a part of this newsletter.
On October 21, 2007, voice and piano students of Brenda Kay Miller were part of a recital held in Ms. Miller's home. 6 Students sang and played piano. The following students were involved in the recital: Sarah Battaglia, Sophia Battaglia, Max Tamarkin, Gloria Rodriguez, Brandon Lyew and Anica Haymes. Two students scheduled to be on the recital were unavailable due to illness. Pictures of participating students appear on the Studio-Pictures page. 17 songs were performed from Cruella De Vill to Quella fiamma che m'accende. Ms. Miller accompanied the vocal students.
January through December 2007 were busy months in Ms. Miller's studio in addition to her private voice and piano teaching. She was priviledged to accompany Peggy Bennett in a Cabaret performance at Dillon's Restaurant/Cabaret on January 26, 2007. A short movie clip from that performance appears on the www.brendakaymiller.com HOME page. Peggy and Brenda will be continuing their work together performing in the metropolitan area. She also began rehearsals as the Vocal Music Director and Lead Accompanist for the Memorial High School Production of Big The Musical in January and played piano for the six performances in March. It was great to work with the Memorial High School students and especially the Drama Club Director and Director for Big The Musical, Mr. Steven Hempel. December was a very exciting month for Ms. Miller as she rehearsed and directed the SGI-USA East Territory Chorus for a Town Hall, New York City performance and New York debut of The Waterfall, a poem by Daisaku Ikeda, SGI International President, which was put to music by Takeo Sakurada. The Town Hall concert held December 29, 2007 included international Jazz performers Buster Williams, Onaje Allan Gumbs and Shunzo Ono along with about 90 classical, jazz and chorus musicians from the east coast in honor of Daisaku Ikeda's 80th Birthday, January 2, 2008. A photo of all performers singing "Happy Birthday" to Pres. Ikeda led by Ms. Miller appears on the STUDIO-PICTURES page of this website and was part of the front page of the Seikyo Shimbum, international Japanese Newspaper.
