Brenda Kay Miller has been performing since she was 3 years old. Brenda's first performance was on the radio in Canton, Ohio at a local radio station singing Here Comes Peter Cottontail. On June 14, 2009 Ms. Miller featured her Hoboken Voice and Piano students on a recital held in Ms. Miller's and Ms. Totaro's Apartment (see the newsletter page and home page student movie clips for more details). She also conducted the SGI-USA East Territory Chorus in a New York City Town Hall Concert salute to Daisaku Ikeda (President of the Soka Gakkai International, world poet, and Nichiren Buddhism Leader for members in 192 countries and territories) toward his 80th birthday held on December 29, 2007. She was the Vocal Music Director and lead pianist for the Memorial High School production of Big The Musical for the last two week-ends in March 2007. Brenda also appeared with her student and friend, Peggy Bennett, at Dillon's Restaurant and Cabaret on January 26, 2007, where she accompanied Peggy on several songs including, Break It To Me Gently. A short movie clip of this song appears on Ms. Miller's HOME page. This year Ms. Miller's poem "The Joy of Persistent Snowfall" appeared in the poetic collection Verses and Visions

A resident of Hoboken, New Jersey, Ms. Miller has a Bachelor of Music degree from Heidelberg College, a Master of Music degree from The Cleveland Institute of Music and two summers of study and performance at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Austria. As a singer/conductor, Ms. Miller has appeared in musicals, operas/oratorios, recitals and conducted performances in Europe and several states, including a performance conducting a 500 voice chorus with Peter Nero and The Philly Pops. Ms. Miller has taught elementary through college music courses in Ohio and New Jersey. She has been the Co-founder/Director of Sound Tapestry of Hoboken, Inc., the Glee Club Director for All Saints Episcopal School and has just retired from the SGI New York Sunrise Women's Chorus Director but continues part time as Director of The SGI Golden Stage Chorus with Jack Light as Accompanist. Ms. Miller teaches voice and piano students and also designs musical arrangements appropriate for each individual student. As a voice coach, she has seen some of her students go on to careers on the Broadway stage and in film. She now also teaches at the Serrano's Academy Performing Arts School in Belleville, NJ on Tuesday evenings and Thursday evenings (for details see Newsletter page) where seven of here voice and piano students appeared on the Serrano's Academy Recital on June 28, 2009.

On April 10, 2006 Ms. Miller appeared as a special guest on Ednah Holt's SGI-USA Concert Dreams Do Come True at the SGI USA Culture Center in New York City. Ednah and Brenda sang a duet originally performed by Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland, Get Happy/Happy Days. A movie excerpt from this performance appears on the HOME page of this website.

Ms. Miller performed 5 jazz and classical songs at the SGI-USA Center in New York City on Nov. 10, 2003 in a concert entitled Songs from the Heart. She was accompanied by Nathan Kaplan on Piano, David Silliman on Drums and Kenny Davis on Bass. Her songs included 3 of her own compositions, Meant To Be Happy, Finding Common Ground, and Choosing Hope. Earlier in 2003 She finished writing the song Choosing Hope, which she'd like to share from this website. If your internet provider offers the opportunity to hear .mp3 or you have an mp3 player on your computer just click on the yellow Choosing Hope. Printed copies of Choosing Hope are available from Ms. Miller for a fee. She also has an SSA version available for this song. Also available from Ms. Miller are two other of her compositions, Meant To Be Happy and Finding Common Ground. She also sang her bossa nova arrangement of Quando m'en vo from Puccini's opera, La Boheme and the Sempre Libera section from Verdi's opera La Traviata. Also appearing on this concert were the accomplished jazz singers, Carol Daly, and her accompanist, Wells Hanley, and, Saundra Silliman, and her accompanist, Helen Sung.
